A brief look at which state legislative sessions are in and out, as well as other significant events.

Week of 10/26/2014
SessionsmapSTATES IN SESSION
  • The legislative bodies of the following jurisdictions are meeting in regular session this week: District of Columbia, Massachusetts (informal), New Jersey, and Ohio (informal). Michigan is in recess until November 6. Pennsylvania is in recess until November 12.
  • Virginia convened March 24 for a special session to finalize the state budget. The General Assembly returned from recess September 18 to close a spending gap. Lawmakers expect to return in October or November to fill judicial vacancies.


STATES OUT OF SESSION (OR SOON TO BE OUT)
  • Wisconsin ended regular floor sessions May 20. The legislature officially adjourns sine die in January, 2015.
  • Illinois ended regular floor sessions May 31. Lawmakers return November 19 for a veto session. The legislature officially adjourns sine die in January, 2015.
  • New York ended regular floor sessions June 20. The legislature officially adjourns sine die in January, 2015.
  • Massachusetts ended regular floor sessions August 1. The legislature officially adjourns sine die in January, 2015.
  • The following states have completed their 2014 regular sessions: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
  • The legislative bodies of the following states do not meet in 2014, unless called into special session: Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, and Texas.


GUBERNATORIAL DEADLINES
  • Alaska Governor Sean Parnell (R) -- who does not possess a pocket veto -- has until November 4 to sign or veto the remaining legislation that reached his desk.
