Alaska: Third Special Session Adjourns
July 28, 2017

Lawmakers concluded a one-day special session yesterday after reaching an agreement on a $1.4 billion capital construction budget, including approximately half of the remaining $47 million allocated for the Juneau Access road. The legislature’s actions allows them to tap into $1.2 billion in federal funding to assist with the road projects. Governor Bill Walker (I) indicated that he will likely sign the measure into law.

Legislators did not reach an agreement on a measure to reduce the state’s current budget deficit. A fourth special session is likely in the near future to close the spending gap.
