Connecticut: Regular Session Adjourns; Budget Special Session Called
June 08, 2017

Lawmakers concluded the regular session late yesterday without an agreement on the $39.9 billion state budget. The lack of a spending plan prompted legislative leaders to call a special session to close a projected $5 billion deficit and complete the budget.

During the session, legislators did approve a measure to allow state regulators to investigate the region’s nuclear industry, the establishment of a casino in East Windsor, and an allowance for mixed martial arts matches on certain tribal reservations.

UPDATE: this special session met intermittently during the latter part of 2017, and into January, 2018. A budget measure was approved by the legislature, but was vetoed by the governor. The legislature decided to continue cconsideration during the 2018 regular session.
