Kansas: Veto Session; Regular Session Concluded
June 26, 2017

Lawmakers finally concluded the 2017 regular session after deciding not to attempt an override of three of Governor Sam Brownback’s (R) vetoes from this month. The recent vetoes include measures to allow state lottery tickets to be sold through vending machines.

Earlier this week, the governor signed the budget bill with two line-item vetoes, one of which was to retain the power of the governor to consolidate disability services. Legislators had also passed measures to roll back the governor’s tax cuts, raise the income tax, and end a tax exemption for certain business owners.
