Rhode Island: Budget Update
August 04, 2017

The Senate reconvened yesterday to finalize the state’s $9.2-billion budget, ending a month-long standoff on the issue. The newly-enacted budget phases out the car tax, increases the minimum wage to $10.50 per hour by January 1, 2019, and establishes free community college in some instances. The budget also provides additional funding for early childhood education and restores funding for free mass transit for needy residents.

Governor Gina Raimondo (D) signed budget into law. The legislature will return to the capitol on September 19 to complete consideration of outstanding bills, including possible legislation relating to a Pawtucket Red Sox stadium.
