South Dakota: Special Session Announced
June 13, 2017

Governor Dennis Daugaard (R) announced that he is calling lawmakers back to the capitol June 12 to consider legislation that would restore access to and regulate the recreational use of lakes on private lands. Specifically, such lands would be open for such use unless the landowner erects signs or buoys that indicate the area is off limits.

UPDATE (06/13/17): The legislature concluded the one-day special session after approving the governor's proposal, with a June 30, 2018 sunset provision. Governor Daugaard has signed the bill into law.
